PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir is a Professor of Statistics & Data Science and Ex-Chairman at Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his B.Sc (Honours) and MSc in Statistics from Jahangirnagar University in 1995 and 1996 with first class 2nd position and first class first position respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of Malaya (UM) Malaysia in 2014 under the Bangabandhu Fellowship on Science & ICT.

During his Ph.D., Dr. Kabir has published numerous articles in local and international journals and achieved Bright Sparks Awards in Malaysia and the Ph.D. candidate with the highest impact publications awards from UM in 2013. He has published about 35 research articles in national and peer-reviewed international journals including,  Addictive Behaviors Reports, Technological and Economic Development of Economy, Health Education Journal, BMC Public Health, PLoS ONE, Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health, Scientometrics, American Journal of Men’s Health, International Journal of Pharmacology, Asia-Europe Journal, International Journal of the Physical Sciences, International Journal of Finance and Accounting, East African Journal of Public Health, The Economic Journal of Nepal, Addiction and The Journal of Family Welfare of India. He is the editorial board member of many international journals. Besides, he has contributed a chapter named Reproductive Health and Newborn Care in Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey-2007. In 2012, Dr. Kabir received a Summer School Certificate on Public Health and Infectious Disease from the University of Bielefeld, Germany. He also participated in numerous international training workshops and seminars organized by the Bright Sparks Unit, UM, WHO, UNICEF, East-West Center/USA, UNFPA, MEASURE Evaluation Project at the University of North Carolina on socio-economic, health & demography, nutrition, public health, and other recent issues. In addition, for research and education, he has visited several countries including Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Nepal, USA, and Malaysia. He is the Bright Sparks Fellow of The University of Malaya.

Dr. Kabir holds some administrative positions, viz. Provost of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Hall (2022-2024), Director of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) (2019-2023), JU; elected Senate Member (Registered Graduate Category) of Jahangirnagar University (2017- ), Joint Secretary, Jahangirnagar University Alumni Association (2017- ), Chairman, CRP Ethics Committee (2015- ). He also served many administrative/professional positions, viz. Provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Senate Member (2005-2010), Syndicate Member (2002-2004), Joint Secretary, Bangladesh Statistical Association, General Secretary, Department of Statistics Alumni Association (DSAA). In addition to his academic and administrative career, he also served in a political position at Bangabandhu Sikkok Parishad at JU. Besides, he is also a member of the Religious Subcommittee of Bangladesh Awami League since 2021.

His analytical annotation on political and economic issues appears in online portals regularly and also, in some other dailies such as Janakantha, Somoyer Alo, Bonik Barta, Bangladesher Khobor, and Sangbad Protidin.
