It gives me great pleasure to address you all as the Chairperson of the Department of History at Jahangirnagar University. Our department has a rich history, having been founded in 1972 by former National Professor and renowned historian Professor A F Salahuddin Ahmed, a visionary leader who understood the importance of preserving and promoting the study of our country's past. 

Over the years, the Department of History has become one of the leading institutions in the country for teaching and researching the history of Bangladesh in particular and the history of South Asia in general. Our faculty members are dedicated scholars who are committed to imparting their knowledge and expertise to our students. At present, we have 18 faculty members working tirelessly to ensure that our students receive the highest quality education. Currently, we have over 400 students enrolled in our graduate and undergraduate programs, which is a testament to our quality of education. Our department is also home to a good number of MPhil Ph.D. researchers engaged in research work on various regional and global issues. We are committed to building on our rich history and taking our department to even greater heights. Together, we will work towards advancing the study of history, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills, and producing scholars who will go on to contribute meaningfully to our society.
